As the world’s schools shut their doors, 9.7 million children may never return.
The organization cited figures from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which said that in April, about 1.6 billion teenagers and children worldwide was unable to attend school due to COVID-19 response measures, equivalent to 90% of the total students worldwide.
Besides, the economic crisis could push 90-117 million children into poverty, making them unable to enroll. By the end of 2021, about 10 million children may never return to school.
