(VOVWORLD) - The culture of the Mong ethnic people in the northern mountainous region has been spotlighted in various events in Hanoi and Yen Bai province.

An event opened Saturday in the capital city featuring folk games, the new rice ceremony, art performances, and costumes of the Mong living in Yen Bai province.
"The program introduces the best of the Mong culture including their folk songs, dances, and games and daily life. Visitors also learn about the Mong’s farm produce and the landscape of their residential areas," said Le Thi Thanh Binh, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Hoang Dai Son, a visitor from Hanoi, said: "More similar events should be organized not only in Hanoi but other parts of Vietnam to promote culture exchanges."

A dance contest featuring panpipes and scarves for pupils wrapped up on Sunday as part of the Yen Bai paragliding festival until next Saturday.
"The Mong ethnic people in Mu Cang Chai boast beautiful traditional costumes and dances. The contest is an opportunity for us to promote the Mong culture," said Sung Bich Ngoc, a student from Mu Cang Chai district.
