(VOVworld) – Forty-nine bodies have been reportedly found in the South Korean capsized ferry while 253 others remain missing.

Divers got inside the ferry and recovered 16 more bodies on Saturday night. Rescue forces are focusing their search in passenger compartments but strong currents and poor visibility made it difficult for the search and rescue operation. More than 500 divers are involved in the effort along with 204 rescue ships and 34 helicopters. But there has been no hope for finding survivors who are said to be able to live within 72 hours. On Saturday, the ferry’s captain and 2 crewmembers were arrested due to their carelessness and violation of marine law. The Korean government is considering the declaration of the accident as a disaster to receive special government assistance.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Korea confirmed a Vietnamese among the missing after the 5-year-old Kwon Ji-yeon, the youngest passenger, was rescued. Her mother is Phan Ngoc Thanh from Ca Mau province.
