More efforts needed to support poor ethnic minorities

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called for efforts to fulfill development targets set for this year and the 2011-2015 period. Closing the government monthly meeting for September on Tuesday, he asked ministries and localities to make the most of available resources to develop industry, agriculture, services, and infrastructure, promote trade, and boost exports. He asked the Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies to study the possibility of opening the aviation market to attract more foreign visitors. He urged ministries and localities to ensure social security, generate jobs and support the poor and ethnic minority people in remote areas. Concerning agricultural restructuring, he said: “Agricultural restructuring should focus on forestry in ethnic minority areas to help them escape poverty and increase their income. More support is needed to help them in animal husbandry.”

The Prime Minister called for better implementation of the 3 strategic breakthroughs and administrative reform and improvements in the investment environment and personnel training. He asked cabinet members to prepare reports to be discussed at the upcoming National Assembly session.

Head of the Government Office Nguyen Van Nen said that the US Congress considering removing the ban on lethal weapon supply for Vietnam demonstrate progress in the comprehensive diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US. Vietnam considers weapon purchasing and repair the essential need of each nation to ensure national defense.
