More opportunities created for the disabled
(VOVworld) – In 2016, the National Committee for Vietnamese Persons with Disabilities is expected to improve its action programs to help the disabled bring into full play their rights.

The Law on Persons with Disabilities was promulgated, facilitating and creating positive changes to disabled people. Social barriers have reduced, rights of persons with disabilities are assured, which helps them further integrate in the society. The government has also issued many preferential policies and programs to support the disabled. Nguyen Trong Dam, Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Vietnamese Persons with Disabilities, said: “We need to examine and adjust policy system to more suitable to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It is necessary to help the disabled to assess to transportation, information and housing. It is essential to promote programs to support the disabled in education, vocational training and employment”.
Vietnam now has more than 7 million disabled people, accounting for 7.8 percent of Vietnamese population.
