At the meeting, President Putin heard reports from the leaders of the Federal Security Service (FSB), the Investigative Committee, the National Guard, and the ministries of interior, health and emergency situations. President Putin extended his condolences to the victims' families and wished the injured a quick recovery.
According to updated information from the Investigation Committee, the death toll has reached more than 60, while at least 145 injured people have been hospitalized for treatment. The bodies of those who died are being examined to determine their identities. The number of victims may keep increasing, the committee said. The committee spokesman said it was too early to give information about the attackers.
On Friday night, a group of armed men opened automatic fire into the crowd in the concert hall right before the opening night of the famous Russian rock group "Piknik". The self-proclaimed "Islamic State" (IS) has admitted being behind the incident. Moscow city authorities have announced the cancellation of all mass gathering activities this weekend. Russia called this a "terrorist attack" and urged the international community to condemn the bloody attack. Russian authorities immediately opened an investigation into the incident.
