The speakers spent a lot of time discussing the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and other challenges the world is facing - political conflicts, economic stress, security threats, climate change, environmental pollution and a global food insecurity.
In his closing remarks, Chairman of the Munich 2023 Security Conference Christoph Heusgen said the conference has shown "strong transatlantic solidarity" and that Europe in general and Germany in particular need to increase defense spending to better respond to the new challenges.
On the sidelines of the conference, there were many bilateral and multilateral discussions that attracted international interest, notably meetings attended by representatives of the US, China, Germany, France, Japan and South Korea.
