Although, according to Section 425 of the constitution, a state of emergency can only be extended twice, the current situation is unusual and it is appropriate to extend it one more time for six months, said military leader General Min Aung Hlaing, adding that multi-party elections must be held “as the people desire.”

Myanmar's military first declared a state of emergency after taking power from the government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February, 2021, and has since extended it twice, for six months each time.
