Myanmar’s army declares one year-long state of emergency

(VOVWORLD) - Myanmar’s state-run Radio and Television (MRTV) announced a year-long state of emergency on Monday after Myanmar’s government leaders were arrested by the military earlier the same day, according to Xinhua.

Reuters reported that a witness said some soldiers were deployed outside of Yangon city hall and that several military vehicles were parked near the building.

In addition, information networks were interrupted in the capital Nay Pyi Taw and other areas in Myanmar. MRTV also announced it could not broadcast due to technical problems.

Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and other senior officials were detained by the military, according to Myo Nyunt, spokesperson for the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD).
