NA begins mid-year session, approves new Minister of Natural Resources and Environment

(VOVWORLD) - The National Assembly (NA) began its mid-year session in Hanoi on Monday morning. It is expected to approve eight draft laws and three draft resolutions.

Addressing the opening ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue underscored the importance of the session in legislative work, supervision, and decisions on key national issues.

The meeting will be divided into 2 phases with a total duration of 23 working days, with the first lasting from May 22 to June 10, and the second from June 19 to June 23, said Mr. Hue.

According to Mr. Hue, 20 draft laws will be reviewed, discussed, or approved at this meeting, several of which have complex contents and wide impact, directly affecting the rights, obligations, and interests of the majority of people and businesses.

“As a result, lawmakers should discuss them thoroughly, assess their compatibility with the Constitution and the Party's guidelines and policies, and carefully consider the reasonableness, feasibility, and impact of proposed new policies,” said the chief legislator said.

He called for special attention to ensuring publicity and transparency; not creating loopholes for negative acts, corruption, or group interests; ensuring stability and consistency in the regulations of each draft law and the consistency and coordination of the legal system; and perfecting institutions and opening up sustainable growth.

The same day, the NA approved the appointment of Dang Quoc Khanh, Secretary of the Ha Giang provincial Party's Committee as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and elected Le Quang Manh, Secretary of the Can Tho city Party's Committee as a member of the NA Standing Committee and Chairman of the NA's Finance-Budget Committee.
