Ms. Ngan said the General Uprising’s spirit has become a tradition of Vietnamese people which has been brought into full play during 30 years of renovation and national development. She said: “This ceremony reminds us of our responsibility for preserving and promoting the national tradition of showing gratitude to our predecessors, who sacrificed themselves for national independence and contributed to national construction”.
60 years ago, Ben Tre was the birth place of the “Long-hair Army”, an all female armed force during the anti-US war. The “Long-hair Army” played an important role in the victory of the South’s revolution and national unification in 1975. The victory of the Uprising led to the establishment of the National Front for Liberation of South Vietnam in 1960.
