(VOVWORLD) -National Assembly deputies on Monday approved the need to invest in the expressway section between Gia Nghia (Dak Nong province) and Chon Thanh (Binh Phuoc province), to open up new development space for Vietnam's central highlands and southeast regions.

Deputy Dieu Huynh Sang, representing Binh Phuoc province, where the project runs through, said this will be a major transportation axis, connecting the central highlands with the southeast region, the southwest region and Ho Chi Minh City.
"Investing in the expressway project will solve traffic infrastructure bottlenecks, drive socio-economic development, and ensure national defense and security in the localities. The proposed project has had a number of changes compared to the road network planning between 2021 and 2030, with a vision to 2050, to create new development space,” he said.
The National Assembly also discussed adjusting the investment policy of the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas from 2021 to 2030. Deputies requested the Government to make specific lists, especially in healthcare and education, to focus on difficult and extremely difficult areas as well as the communes which have just completed the New Rural Building Program.
Deputy Truong Xuan Cu of Hanoi said: “As the country integrates internationally, ethnic minorities need to strive for national integration, starting with education. Compared to the national average, current ethnic boarding schools are relatively good, so it’s necessary to allocate budget to train competent ethnic people. We need to focus on ethnic talents.”
At the session, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang and Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Hau A Lenh clarified a number of issues they are responsible for.
