The revised law redefines normal working hours and the settlement of labour disputes.

Nguyen Thuy Anh, chief of the NA’s Committee for Social Affairs, said: “The scope of the law has been expanded. The retirement age will be raised. Enterprises must establish trade unions not under the management of the Vietnam Trade Union to improve the efficiency of representation and protect workers’ rights and interests in conformity with ILO treaties and international commitments.”

Deputies said the Revised Labour Code contributes to perfecting the socialist-oriented market economy, boosts the labour market, and ensures the legitimate rights and benefits of workers and employers.

Deputy Vo Dinh Tin of Dak Nong province said the Revised Labour Code follows the 2013 Constitution in regard to citizens’ fundamental rights and obligations.

“I agree with establishing a representative organization for workers at each enterprise. But the fundamental rights and interests of workers must be ensured in line with the 2013 Constitution,” said Tin.
