NATO holds naval drills in the Black Sea

(VOVworld) – Warships from several NATO members took part in naval drills called PASSEX on Wednesday in the Black Sea, in the southeast of Constanta, off the territorial waters of Romania. Naval forces from the UK, Germany, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, the US, and Turkey were joined by others from Bulgaria, Romania, and Canada for the exercises. The 2-day exercises include PASSEX type drills featuring communication drills, joint tactical maneuvers, and data exchange on viewing surface and underwater situations. The naval forces will also be tasked with defeating attacks by simulated air and surface enemies.

In another development, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev attended the opening ceremony of a crisis management centre for NATO in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Wednesday. The new Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) will explore NATO's capabilities and provide expert analyses to local and central government institutions. Its fields of expertise include capacity building, boosting interoperability and promoting the training of commanders and leaders from NATO member states and partners.
