(VOVWORLD) -NATO will begin its largest-ever air force deployment exercise in Europe next week. The "Air Defender 23" will take place over 10 days and include 220 military aircraft from 25 NATO and partner countries.

The exercise will include operational and tactical-level training, primarily in Germany, but also in the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Latvia.
US Ambassador to Germany Amy Gutmann said the exercise is purely defensive in nature. General Michael Loh, director of the US Air National Guard, said the exercise will focus on supplementing the permanent US presence in Europe and providing training on a larger scale than what has usually been done on the continent.
