(VOV) – President Truong Tan Sang will pay an official visit to the US from July 24-26 at the invitation of President Barack Obama. Vietnamese ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong said President Sang’s upcoming visit is of great importance, ushering in a new period of bilateral relations. Cuong said President Sang will meet with Obama and will have a full schedule of meetings with US congressmen, senators, entrepreneurs, scholars, friends, and leaders from some international organizations and the Vietnamese community abroad. Cuong told VOV’s correspondent in the US: “Bilateral relations have, in recent years, developed comprehensively in various areas. US leaders consider Vietnam an emerging partner in the region. I think Vietnam and the US have the potential to expand bilateral relations in the future. It’s high time for the two countries to establish a new partnership framework. We expect that talks between President Obama and President Sang will determine the new framework.”
The visit will demonstrate Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralism of external relations, and active international integration in the spirit that Vietnam is a friend and a reliable partner in the international community.
