New Zealand’s Special Envoy to attend Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s funeral
(VOVWORLD) - Former Deputy Prime Minister Donald Charles McKinnon will attend Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s funeral in Hanoi this week as a Special Envoy of New Zealand’s Government, New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced on Tuesday.

“It is important that the Government give due recognition to the significant contributions that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made to New Zealand-Viet Nam relations,” Mr. Peters said.
The Special Envoy’s attendance is a “demonstration of the deep respect that New Zealand has for the Vietnamese people and its government,” the Foreign Minister noted.
In a message of condolences to President To Lam on Monday, Governor-General of New Zealand Dame Cindy Kiro praised the role of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the development of relations between the two countries.
