No new cases reported for first time since COVID-19’s resurgence

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s aggressive measures to contain the latest COVID-19 outbreaks have proved effective as no new cases were recorded on Friday morning.

This is the first time the country has reported no new domestic infections since the pandemic re-emerged last week.

The national count is now kept at 1,957. More than 1,400 patients have recovered and 35 have died.

Since last Thursday, Vietnam has recorded 375 COVID-19 community transmissions in the third wave which hit the nation just before the Lunar New Year Festival.

New infections were found in 10 cities and provinces including Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Gia Lai, and HCM city. Most of the domestically-transmitted infections have been linked to Hai Duong and Quang Ninh, both located in northern Vietnam.

Rapid contact tracing is underway while authorities have managed to put a large number of direct and indirect contacts in quarantine to stem the pathogen.

Targeted lockdowns have helped Vietnam get the upper hand in dealing with this new wave of transmissions.
