South Korean President Moon Jae-in convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council. Reuters earlier cited a source from Japan’s Cabinet Office as saying the missile appeared to have landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone.

US Pacific Command (PACOM) said the short-range ballistic missile was launched near Wonsan Airfield, Gangwon province, and was tracked for six minutes until it landed in the Sea of Japan. PACOM confirmed that the missile was not a threat to North America. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe denounced this test-launch and promised strong coordination with other countries to stop similar provocations in the future.

This has been the North’s 9th test-launch so far this year.
