The launch took place in the context of the ongoing G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China and the South Korean-US joint military exercises in South Korea. Last month, North Korea for the first time successfully fired a ballistic missile from a submarine. North Korea is suffering under 5 sanction resolutions imposed by the UN Security Council due to its nuclear and missile programs. The UN Security Council approved its latest resolution in March, imposing sanctions on North Korea, including a ban on exports and asset freezes.
