North Korea test fires ballistic missile into Sea of Japan, South Korea says
(VOVWORLD) - North Korea has fired a ballistic missile, South Korea's military said Thursday, the latest in a string of banned weapons tests carried out by Pyongyang so far this year. "North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile into the East Sea," Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said, referring to the body of water also known as the Sea of Japan.

The joint chiefs said the launch was carried out Thursday evening. It came after the North's military vowed to respond after South Korea and the U.S. wrapped up days of major live-fire military exercises Thursday near the heavily fortified border that separates North and South Korea.
