Overseas Vietnamese protest China's violation of Vietnam's sovereignty
(VOVworld)- More than 1,300 Vietnamese and Japanese people in Osaka and Okayama cities joined a march on May 25 to protest China’s illegal actions in the East Sea. They marched along streets near the Chinese Embassy in Osaka and raised high banners declaring “Vietnam loves peace” and “China must respect international law”. The Japanese daily newspaper Sankei and Asahi reported on the march. President of the Vietnamese Youth and Students in Okayama Phan Thanh Hai said the march conveyed a message of peace to people in Japan and the world. The protesters supported the Vietnamese government and wanted Vietnam to take resolute measures to protect national sovereignty.
Overseas Vietnamese people and students in Montreal, Canada gathered at a rally in front of the Chinese embassy to protest China’s illegal placement of Haiyang 981 oil rig in Vietnam’s waters. More than 100 people in T-shirts bearing the Vietnamese flags upheld the national flag and banners affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos and condemning China’s illegal actions. They demanded the Chinese government act responsibly, respect international law and withdraw its oil rig from Vietnam’s waters.
