Palestine calls for support for its recognition as a State

(VOVworld) – The Palestinian delegation to the United Nations has begun talks with members of the UN Security Council, ahead of submitting a resolution that would recognize a Palestinian state with 1967 borders and set a clear timetable for the end of the Israeli occupation.

During his upcoming visit to New York next week, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to present the draft resolution backed by the Arab League to the Security Council. To enlist EU support for Palestine’s initiative, Mr. Abbas plans to ask French President Francois Hollande to recognize the Palestinian state at a meeting next week in Paris. If the resolution does not gain majority support from the Security Council or is vetoed by the US, Palestine will consult other international organizations including the International Criminal Court.
