Party Central Committee recommends NA to elect Party leader as President of Vietnam
(VOVWORLD) - All members of the Party Central Committee have agreed to recommend the National Assembly to elect Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as President of Vietnam at the legislature’s upcoming 6th session.
The recommendation was made on Wednesday at the ongoing 8th session of the 12th Party Central Committee. The Committee also elected Vo Thai Nguyen and Tran Duc Thang as additional members of its Inspection Commission.
On Wednesday morning, members of the Party Central Committee discussed a report on socio-economic performance and state budget 2018 and plans for 2019. The discussion, as part of the on-going Party Central Committee’s 8th session, was chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Participants showed their approval of the reports by the Government’s Party Committee on socio-economic and budget performance this year and plans for next year, while analyzing problems and recommending directions, targets and solutions.
Deputy Defense Minister Be Xuan Truong said Vietnam is restructuring its economy by reforming its growth model to increase productivity and economic competitiveness and implementing 3 strategic breakthroughs relating to mechanism, infrastructure, and human resources. Mr. Truong said mechanism is the most important factor to mobilize resources for national development.
Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Thao Xuan Sung called on the Party Central Committee to focus its leadership on agricultural restructure in combination with growth model shift to improve the competitiveness of Vietnam’s agricultural produce.
