(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has applauded US President Donald Trump’s Vietnam visit which he said is of importance and contributes to strengthening Vietnam-US bilateral ties and the success of the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting hosted by Vietnam.

At a reception for President Trump in Hanoi on Sunday, Mr. Trong called both sides to work harder to boost political trust, exchange of high-level visits, cooperation in education, human resources, and science-technology, and coordination at multilateral forums. He expressed his belief that the Vietnam-US relations will continue to flourish for the benefits of the two peoples, the region, and the wider world.
President Trump said he is profoundly impressed by Vietnam, its land, people, and achievements. Informing the Party leader of the outcomes of his talk with President Tran Dai Quang, the US leader said Vietnam’s export surplus to the US shows that Vietnam has been more effective in bilateral cooperation. He said he hopes that Vietnam will increase its import of American products towards more balanced trade and that both sides will strengthen cooperation in other areas.
