Philippines protests China's test flights in the East Sea
(VOVworld)- The Philippines has filed a protest against China's test flights to an airfield China illegally built on the Fiery Cross Reef of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in the East Sea. The spokesperson for the Philippine Foreign Ministry Charles Jose said that Manila summoned China's embassy official to hand over the protest. Jose said the test flights were "provocative actions" that will restrict the freedom of navigation and over flights in the East China Sea. He said these actions by China have elevated tensions and anxiety in the region and are in violation of the spirit and letter of the ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of parties in the East Sea. Earlier, Philippine Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario expressed concern that China’s test flights landed on the Fiery Cross Reef could enable Beijing to control both airspace and sea in the region.
