The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit is an important mechanism aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and sustainable development in the region. Supported by the Asian Development Bank, the GMS mechanism initiated in 1992 brings together six countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and China (specifically the Yunnan and Guangxi provinces). Vietnam joined the GMS initiative in 1992 as one of the founding members.
