PM attends first ASEAN-Australia Special Summit
(VOVWORLD) - The first ASEAN-Australia Special Summit opened in Sydney on Friday, attended by Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and leaders of the ASEAN nations, including Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The 3-day event will discuss regional security, economic relations, terrorism, and measures to further strengthen the ASEAN-Australia relationship. The leaders will adopt a Sydney Statement, a joint declaration of the Summit, and a memorandum of understanding on anti-terrorism cooperation between ASEAN and Australia. A dozen MoUs, initiatives, projects to cooperate in fighting terrorism and human trafficking, and a cyber policy dialogue mechanism will also be signed.
Prime Minister Phuc is scheduled to meet with Premier of New South Wales Gladys Bereijiklian and the state’s Governor David Hurley. Mr. Phuc will work with Australian financial investors and representatives of major Australian groups, and attend the Vietnam-Australia Business Forum. On Saturday he will attend the opening ceremony for VOV’s new bureau in Sydney.
