(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam deeply sympathizes with the Government and people of Turkey about the loss of lives and property, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at a meeting with Vietnamese personnel who participated in the search and rescue missions in Turkey, which was struck by the devastating earthquake on February 6.

Commending collectives and individuals of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense, Prime Minister Chinh underlined Vietnam’s foreign policy of being a good friend, a reliable partner and an active and responsible member of the international community.
He added that Vietnam with the tradition of mutual affection quickly sent 100 rescuers to assist Turkey, marking the first time Vietnam deployed a big contingent of forces to help in search and rescue in a far away country. This action has been praised by the international community and the Government and the people of Turkey, he said.
The Prime Minister pointed out lessons learned and said that given climate change growing more and more extreme and unpredictable, the mission of humanitarian assistance and rescue is increasingly demanding. He requested units to be proactive and quick to deal with arising problems, give timely advise, and stick to foreign affairs guidelines and policies of the Party and State and the actual conditions of the country.
He stressed the need to be well-prepared in terms of forces and means for all types of incidents and disasters, strengthen coordination between ministries, sectors and localities in dealing with non-traditional security issues, and build a command and control mechanism to respond to natural disaster situations.
