Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh told a VOV correspondent prior to Phuc’s US visit: “In his invitation letter to Prime Minister Phuc, President Trump said the US wants to boost all-round cooperation with Vietnam, who the US considers an important partner. US congressmen have told me they support the relationship with Vietnam, which, they hope, will be strengthened by this visit. The co-chairmen of the Congressional ASEAN Caucus said they welcome Prime Minister Phuc’s visit, which will be beneficial to US relations with Vietnam and ASEAN as a whole.”

The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of Vietnam’s UN membership. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend a celebration in New York and hold talks with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
