In his speech, PM Chinh said connecting the strategic transport infrastructure of Vietnam and China is particularly important because it will facilitate people and goods exchanges and regional and global connectivity. Vietnam can be connected with Central Asia and Europe through China, and China be connected with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) via Vietnam.
The Prime Minister suggested the two sides focus on cooperation in building three railway lines linking Vietnam with China, namely Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong, Lang Son-Hanoi, and Mong Cai-Ha Long-Hai Phong. He encouraged Chinese businesses to further engage in urban railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City according to the PPP model.
He also proposed expanding the number of air carrier routes between Vietnam and China, increasing the frequency of flights, promoting policies to encourage Vietnam-China tourism, and expanding road projects to connect the two countries.
Prime Minister Chinh called for more cooperation in the form of joint ventures in a spirit of harmonized interests and shared risks towards win-win gains, in order to have more flagship cooperation projects.
At a reception for Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing in Beijing on Thursday, PM Chinh asked the Chinese side to assist Vietnam's railway sector through technology research and transfer, preferential loans, and manpower training.
The Chinese Vice Premier proposed ministries, localities, and agencies of both sides, especially the two agencies managing state capital at enterprises, continue coordinating closely to carry out projects in line with the orientations and directions of the two countries’ leaders.
