PM urges thorough preparation for UN Day of Vesak Celebrations
(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called for thorough preparations for the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations in May 2019 at a conference in Hanoi on Wednesday to organize the event.

Underlining the importance of this international event, PM Phuc said that its success will enhance Vietnam’s status and affirm the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy of respecting and ensuring the right to freedom of religion and belief. He urged the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Central Committee to map out a master plan for the event, and make the thorough preparations in infrastructure and agenda. Localities were asked to coordinate closely with the VBS.
The United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations will take place in Ha Nam province from 12 to 14 May under the theme “Buddhism’s approach to global leadership and sharing responsibility for a sustainable society”. It is expected to draw 1,500 foreign delegates from 90 nations and territories and 10,000 domestic delegates including Buddhist dignitaries and followers.
