PM: Vietnam never concedes in any matter concerning national independence, sovereignty
(VOVWORLD) - In a report on implementation of this year’s socio-economic development and a plan for next year at the 8th session of the 14th National Assembly, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Monday noted complications in the East Sea since the beginning of this year and serious violations of Vietnam’s waters as defined by international law.

He said the violations ran counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and other agreements. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said: “The Vietnamese Party and State consistently pursues a policy of not conceding in any matter concerning national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and at the same time maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for development. Vietnam has been resolutely abiding by international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, in maintaining a peaceful environment, friendship and cooperation with other countries. The correct policies, stance, and efforts of the Vietnamese Party and State have received support from Vietnamese people and the international community.”
Prime Minister Phuc said Vietnam will continue to strengthen its national defense and security capacity and closely and effectively combine national defense tasks with socio-economic development. Vietnam is hold strong to a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, and strengthening relations with other countries and partners. Vietnam will fulfill its roles as ASEAN Chair in 2020, Chair of 41st ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Alliance and Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, Phuc said adding that Vietnam will effectively implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement and submit the National Assembly agreements on investment and investment with the EU for approval. He said Vietnam will also pay more attention to overseas Vietnamese Affairs and create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the homeland.
