Politicians praise inter-Korean summit results
(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump on Wednesday tweeted on his personal account, hailing the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s statement made at the inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang.
He said "Kim jong-un has agreed to allow nuclear inspections, subject to final negotiations, and to permanently dismantle a test site and launch pad in the presence of international experts." President Trump expressed optimism that North Korea will no longer test nuclear missiles, noting that the two Koreas’ co-hosting of the 2032 Summer Olympics is a "very exciting" idea.
South Korean parties have mixed reactions on the latest joint statement, following talks between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. According to South Korean liberal parties, this joint-statement marked a milestone in restoring peace on the Korean peninsula. The ruling Democratic Party said that the two Koreas have reiterated their commitments on denuclearizing the Korean peninsula. The Party for Democracy and Peace voiced its hope that efforts to maintain communication and cooperation between the two Koreas will contribute to realizing Mr. Kim's pledge to visit Seoul in the near future.
In another development, President Moon Jea-in is to visit the US next week to have talks with President Donald Trump.
