Portugal’s President sets deadline for reform measures
Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva
(VOVworld) – All political parties in Portugal were asked to agree on measures to reform the economy before the government launches the state budget for next year. Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva released the statement on Tuesday, reacting to the national public debt rising to 132.4% of GDP in the first quarter. President Silva said agreeing on economic reform means not repeating the mistakes of the past. He said Portugal needs a medium-term agreement to create stability at a time of record public debt. This would help Portugal escape the political crisis triggered by the constitutional court rejecting the 2014 state budget.
