(VNA/VOVworld) – The “Georgian Dream” bloc led by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili finished first in the country’s parliamentary election with 54.9% of the vote, while the Unified National Movement of President Mikhael Saakashvili secured 40.3% of the vote. The preliminary result was announced yesterday by the Georgian Central Election Commission after 99% of the vote was counted. The same day, Ivanishvili convened “Georgian Dream” leaders in a closed session to discuss the establishment of a new government. A working group was formed to cooperate with President Saakashvili in setting up a new cabinet. Ivanishvili said he possibly will take the post of Georgia’s Prime Minister, adding that the country’s new leaders advocate improving relations with Russia while maintaining the current alliance with the European Union and NATO.
