(VOVWORLD) - The Latin American news agency Prensa Latina recently ran an article titled "Human rights in Vietnam: facts, more than words”, highlighting Vietnam’s achievements in promoting human rights.

In the article, Moises Perez Mok, head of the Prensa Latina bureau in Hanoi, says Vietnam's recently released national report to the fourth cycle of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism reflects undeniable progress, thanks to the country’s consistent promotion and protection of human rights for all.
The report provides an overview of all aspects of the work in Vietnam since the previous review, as well as implementation of the recommendations made in the third UPR cycle in 2019, accepted in whole or in part by Vietnam as of January 2024.
The article cited the report as noting that Vietnam respects and guarantees the freedoms of belief, religion, and association, which are rights established since the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) in 1945 and endorsed in the 2013 Constitution. The UN has recognized Vietnam as one of the leading countries in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. As of 2022, Vietnam's Human Development Index (HDI) stood at 0.726, a relatively high HDI compared to nations at higher levels of development.
Prensa Latina cited Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as stating that Vietnam will not abandon its efforts to build a socialist country that is strong, democratic, fair, and civilized, with a highly developed economy, an advanced culture deeply imbued with national identity, and people endowed with prosperity, freedom, happiness, and conditions for comprehensive development.
