(VOVworld) - State President Truong Tan Sang has praised comprehensive progress in the Vietnamese-US relations with the highlight being an upcoming visit by Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong to the US.

President Truong Tan Sang made the statement at a reception in Hanoi Thursday for a delegation from the Associated Press (AP), one of the largest US news agencies, led by its President and CEO Gary Pruitt.

Mr. Sang praised the visit, noting Vietnam and the US are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of bilateral relations.

He expressed his hope that AP will continue to contribute to developing bilateral ties and introducing Vietnam to the world as a dynamic and peace-loving nation.

President Sang said that relations between Vietnam and the US promised to bring prosperity and peace to the Asia-Pacific region.

Together with the world media, AP has also contributed to deepening understanding between the two peoples, Mr. Sang noted.

For his part, Mr. Pruitt pledged that in future, AP will continue broadcasting news and images on social and economic developments in Vietnam to people in the US and the world.
