(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam is making strenuous efforts in climate change response and has decided to stop using coal power by 2050, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on Wednesday.

Receiving US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in Hanoi on Wednesday, President Phuc said Vietnam hopes the United States will continue to support financial resources as well as technology and human resources for Vietnam to develop wind, solar, and hydroelectric power projects.
As US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Mr. Kerry said Vietnam and the US will strengthen cooperation in preparation for the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 27). He added the US has many ideas and financial and human resources to help Vietnam shift to a clean energy model, especially solar energy. The US can also help Vietnam in digital transformation to serve socio-economic development, Mr. Kerry said.
President Phuc also said he hopes that the US Government will continue to increase the budget in dealing with the consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin, clearing landmines, and helping people with disabilities and other related issues. Vietnam is committed to continuing to cooperate fully in a humanitarian spirit in the search for US servicemen missing in action in Vietnam, Mr. Phuc said.
