(VOVworld)- Vietnam and Cuba hold great potential for cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology, agro-fisheries, processing industries and consumer goods, energy, medicine-pharmaceuticals, and education-training. The Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba Raul Castro shared the views at their talks in Havana on Wednesday.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang pays an official visit to Cuba

The talks took place following a grand welcoming ceremony for the Vietnamese President, who is paying an official visit to Cuba from November 15-17. On specific areas of cooperation, the two leaders agreed to improve the efficiency of on-going and future projects in agro-fisheries, facilitating market navigation of both countries’ businesses, and launching joint projects relating to tourism infrastructure, construction materials and consumer goods.

Both sides pledged to continue working closely together at international and multilateral forums to protect their legitimate rights and interests, and enhance each country’s prestige and position, while making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the two regions and the world.

At a meeting with the Speaker of Cuba’s Parliament Esteban Lazo on Wednesday, President Tran Dai Quang urged the two countries’ legislatures to continue to support and monitor the implementation of bilateral agreements to further strengthen economic, trade, security, defense, and external relations.

Speaking at a meeting with the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economics and Planning Ricardo Cabrisas, President Quang urged the two governments to improve bilateral cooperation mechanisms. He praised the 34^th session of the two Inter-governmental committees which will review the implementation of signed agreements and discuss further cooperative activities in economics, trade, science and technology. Quang asked the Cuban government to support Vietnam’s investment projects on telecommunications, oil and gas, infrastructure construction, tourism, construction material and consumer goods production in Cuba.

President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse also visited the Nguyen Van Troi school in Havana. In the evening, the Council of State of Cuba hosted a ceremony to award Jose Marti Order – the highest distinction of the Cuban State - to President Tran Dai Quang.
