President Tran Dai Quang receives Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and China need to continue strengthening the relations between the two Parties, states and people, said President Tran Dai Quang at a meeting on Sunday with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the 6th Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit (GMS-6).

The Vietnamese President congratulated China on successfully holding the first meeting of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (new tenure) following the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China which elected new State and Government leaders for the new tenure. President Quang urged the two countries to boost economic and trade cooperation in par with their political ties and increase exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding and trust. The Vietnamese President said the two sides need to seriously abide by common perception agreed by the two countries’ high-ranking leaders and the Agreement on Fundamental Principles guiding the Settlement of sea-related issues and international law to peacefully settle disputes at sea. Quang said the two countries need to manage disputes, not to complicate the situation, and maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Chinese Party and people treasure ties with Vietnam saying China will seriously implement the Agreement on Fundamental Principles guiding the Settlement of sea-related issues.

At a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister on Saturday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the two countries to increase bilateral trade and boost cooperation in transport, agriculture, the environment, science, technology, and finance. Phuc asked China to facilitate Vietnam to access China’s preferential capital and effectively implement its aids for Vietnam.
