Speaking at a joint press briefing with visiting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, President Trump criticized the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and stressed that a new nuclear deal with Iran is likely to be negotiated. He also declined to say whether the US would pull out of the nuclear deal before a May 12 deadline for a decision.
President Trump made the statement as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said in a televised address that Israel had “Iran’s secret files”, including 55,000 pages of Iranian documents which reveal it is still covertly pursuing nuclear weapons in something called “Project Amad”.
The same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called Netanyahu’s claims “baseless” and aimed at deceiving world governments.
