(VOVworld)- 193 state members of the UN adopted the Agenda for 2030 on Sustainable Development at their summit in New York on Friday.This ambitious agenda, comprising of 17 goals, will serve as the launch pad for action by the international community and by national governments to promote shared prosperity and well-being for all over the next 15 years.

President Truong Tan Sang, Head of the Vietnamese delegation, delivered a keynote speech themed “Ensuring an environment of peace and security on the basis of respecting international law is a prerequisite to successfully implement Sustainable Development Goals”. President Sang highlighted challenges facing peace, security and sustainable development which include poverty, epidemics, social inequality, exhausted natural resources, environmental degradation, instability, conflicts and crisis. Sang said the Agenda for 2030 points out new strategy and reflects the human beings’ aspiration to live in a peaceful, safe, equal, clean and green environment.

President Sang reiterated Vietnam’s commitments to mobilize all resources to successfully respond to the 2030 Agenda and SDGs: “To successfully respond to the 2030 Agenda and implement SDGs, it’s necessary to have high political determination, mobilize internal strength and national potential, and integrate SGDs in all national strategies and programs which are people-centered and appropriate to each country’s specific condition. Vietnam has been proactively implementing the National Strategy on Sustainable Growth in the 2011-2010 period. We are committed to accelerating the economic restructuring, shifting the growth model to improve our economic efficiency, ensuring social equality, saving natural resources and improving the environment in order to cope with climate change”.
