President Truong Tan Sang holds talks with Tanzanian President

(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang began a state visit to Tanzania on Wednesday at the invitation of President John Magufuli.

The two Presidents discussed measures to boost bilateral cooperation and global issues of mutual concern. President Sang repeated Vietnam’s wishes to expand cooperation with African countries, particularly Tanzania.  Tanzania had supported Vietnam during its struggle for national independence and reunification as well as its current development. He appreciated Tanzania’s contributions to peace, stability, and cooperation in the Southern African Development Community, the East African Economic Cooperation Community, and the whole continent.

The two Presidents discussed measures to boost trade and the import and export of garment and textile products and farming machinery. President Sang said Vietnam is ready to be a bridge for Tanzania’s goods to enter ASEAN and members of the FTAs Vietnam has joined. He said he hopes Tanzania will help Vietnam access its market and other markets in East and South Africa towards achieving 1 billion USD in two-way trade by 2020. President Sang said: “We agreed to maintain regular meetings of the inter-governmental committee to review and boost cooperation. We agreed that countries should contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability and that border and territorial disputes should be settled peacefully and in line with international law.”

Tanzanian President John Magufuli expressed his wish that Vietnam will invest more in Tanzania and share its experience and technology in rice cultivation, aquaculture, garments and textiles and footwear for which Tanzania has great material sources. President John Magufuli said he hopes that Vietnamese enterprises will invest in Tanzania’s industrial zones and support its industrialization strategy for the next 25 years. The two sides defined agriculture and telecommunication as major sectors for bilateral cooperation. They agreed to accelerate the signing of a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.
