Prime Minister Phuc thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for inviting Vietnam to attend the Group of Seven (G7) Outreach Summit and visit Canada, and applauded the significant contributions of host Canada to the G7 events.

Prime Minister Trudeau said Vietnam is one of Canada’s important partners in the region. He praised Vietnam’s role in the international arena as well as contributions made by PM Phuc and the Vietnamese delegation to the G7 Outreach Summit, especially Vietnam’s initiatives regarding cooperation in raising responding capacity for coastal communities, developing fisheries sustainably and protecting the marine environment.

The two leaders agreed to enhance high-level contacts and all-level delegation exchanges, and promote relations via party and parliament channels to increase mutual understanding and trust.

They also agreed to maintain and enhance close coordination at regional and international forums such as the United Nations (UN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, the Francophone Community, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Before returning to Vietnam the same day, Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with representatives of the Vietnamese community from across Canada in Quebec. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of considering overseas Vietnamese an integral part and important resource of Vietnam. He stressed that all Vietnamese expatriates, including those in Canada, are encouraged to visit and invest in the homeland.
