Themed “Shaping an interconnected world”, the summit discusses global growth, trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, energy, assistance for Africa, health care, employment, digitization, and women. Being invited as main speaker of the round of discussions on sustainable development, climate change, and energy on Friday, Prime Minister Phuc delivered a strong message on climate change response. He said Vietnam as one of the most-effected countries will make effort to achieve the 17 UN sustainable development goals 2030 by prioritizing poverty reduction, renewable energy, and climate change response. Vietnam has integrated climate change activities into its development plans and worked to reduce 8% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and even 25% if it receives the effective international assistance. As host of APEC Year 2017, Vietnam prioritizes the agenda of sustainable development, climate change response, and effective use of energy. Vietnam is collaborating with other APEC members to increase in-depth discussions on inclusive growth.
Prime Minister Phuc called on G20 and the international community to strictly implement their international commitments, effectively cooperate with each other, increase financial and technological assistance for developing countries in achieving sustainable development and inclusive growth goals
Earlier, during his meeting with First Mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholz, the PM asked Hamburg to step up cooperation in seaport management, planning and development with port cities of Vietnam. He suggested the state encourages its businesses to invest in Vietnam, especially in areas of their strength such as shipbuilding, petro-chemistry, aviation-aerospace, electronics, precision mechanics, chemicals and optical equipment.
