Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attends ASEAN Summits
(VOVworld)-Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has left Vientiane after attending the 28
th and 29
th ASEAN Summits in Laos. In meetings earlier on Thursday between ASEAN, US and Indian leaders and the East Asian Summit, the Prime Minister called for more cooperation between India and ASEAN to promote compliance with international law in settling disputes peacefully and building up trust while strengthening trade and investment.

Commenting on ASEAN US relations, the Prime Minister welcomed US commitments to ASEAN and called for more cooperation to help lower stream Mekong river countries to better cope with climate change impact and use water resources more sustainably.
Addressing the East Asian Summit, the Prime Minister committed to consolidating trust for peace and mutual benefits. He considered the East Sea disputes as requiring compliance with international law while not deploying military actions while respecting the Declaration on Conducts of Parties in the East Sea. He urged parties involved to show goodwill to ensure peace, stability, cooperation and development. He said parties should not use force or threaten to use force and should settle conflicts by international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
In conclusion, East Asian leaders approved the Vientiane statement on infrastructure development cooperation and the EAS statement to tackle the migration crisis and human trafficking.
