The unit is responsible for managing and protecting territorial sovereignty and maintaining political security, social order and safety on the 2.62 km-long border, an important point for trade and international exchanges between Vietnam and China and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China.

Prime Minister Chinh called on the border guard force to be well aware of firmly defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity and borderline; maintain peace and stability in border areas to promote exchanges, cooperation, friendship and development; not to affect the overall situation of stability, friendship and cooperation in relations with the neighboring country; and perform well the border defense foreign affairs.

He urged for greater effort to accurately and promptly assess internal and external situations; effectively combat all kinds of crimes, maintain political security, social order and safety; and prevent smuggling and illegal cross-border goods transportation.
