(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam and the UK have a strong potential for cooperation in education and science - areas in which Vietnam has a strong interest and for which the UK has an outstanding reputation, a British professor told VNA Wednesday on the occasion of President Vo Van Thuong’s visit to the UK to attend the coronation of King Charles III.

Patrick Callaghan, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor of London South Bank University, said  relationship between Vietnam and the UK is thriving.

Following the signing of the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) in December, 2020, which officially took effect in May, 2021, two-way trade turnover reached 6.8 billion pounds last year.

Bilateral relations can be boosted through cooperation in education and scientific research, two areas of great potential, and educational cooperation can be expanded to continuing and secondary education.

According to Professor Callaghan, the UK is well known for the quality of its education, its strong research background and environment for issues outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These are areas Vietnam is very interested in.
