Minister Quang said Vietnam’s police force is ready to join efforts in settling global issues.
He said that since 2022 the Ministry of Public Security has sent four working groups, 11 officers, to carry out UN peacekeeping missions at the UNMISS in South Sudan and the UNISFA in the Abyei region.
It has appointed an officer to the UN Department of Peace Operations. In January this year, the Ministry launched the UN Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1. The Minister also highlighted moves to promote gender equality, including a partnership with UN Women.
Minister Quang proposed that Ms. Tamesis continue facilitating bilateral cooperation, with a focus on providing equipment and helping the Ministry improve its capacity to combat trans-national crimes, including those related to drugs, human trafficking, money laundering, and terrorism. He also called for more help in pre-deployment training.
Ms. Tamesis pledged to continue helping the Ministry of Public Security carry out the training of police officers to join the UN peacekeeping force. She also promised to promote cooperation programs between the Ministry and UN agencies.
